About Sassafreckled

What’s life without a little sass? It’s probably as bland as living without freckles. I’m Courtney and this is a personal blog about all things sassy while keeping things classy. It’s also about how I manage to get through everyday while focusing on the positive side of life such as sharpening my sewing skills.

Turns out that my knack for sewing runs in my family… both of my grandmothers were seamstresses. My dad’s mother would make my sister and me dresses and skirts the entire time growing up. Plus, I remember my mom telling us stories of when she was growing up. She told us of how her mom would trace her back using newspaper before they’d go off to school. And by the time she got home, her dress would be made. She did this with each of her 9 kids but out of them all, only 3 learned and only 1 really stuck with it… my aunt B.

My aunt B really inspired me to sew. I started when I was little; with me cutting up socks to make Barbie doll clothes. When I was in the 6th grade I took home economics and learned to sew. The first thing I made was an apron, which was the bomb by the way, so I gave it to Aunt B. I knew she would put it to good use since she is a housewife. Unfortunately, I didn’t stick with it and lost the little skills I had.

It wasn’t until 2012 when I was able to pick back up sewing again. I had asked my hubby for a sewing machine for our 1st year anniversary and I’ve been sewing ever since. I love creating new things, revamping old clothes, and making arts and crafts. It may be unconventional but I am a believer in doing it myself and using techniques that work for me.

Until then, I will learn as I go and have as much fun as possible.
