First Vacation Cruise

My first cruise experience was on the Carnival cruise line. We booked a 5 day cruise that took us to Mexico on one of the older ships called Fantasy. Our suite was old but spacious and our stateroom attendant was very nice. The best part for me was the sites. The beautiful blue ocean, the lighthouse, and the sunsets.

The ship disembarked from Mobile, Alabama. We drove up the day before stayed at the Courtyard Marriott since we had to check in early the following morning. We spent most of our time on the cruise eating and drinking and people watching. After a few drinks we ended up giving them something to watch especially when The Kaleidoscope Duo performed. For me they were the best part of the cruise.

They knew all the songs I knew; which is a lot and a wide variety of genres. I was the one chair dancing and singing along to almost every song they performed. Check them out on my Instagram.

The excursions we signed up for was Merida City Highlights & Shopping in Yucatan (Progreso) and Mexican Fiesta: Eat, Drink, Dance in Cozumel which ended up getting cancelled. That’s why we have pictures of our first excursion but not the later. When we got to Cozumel, we just walked around the mall (Plaza Punta Langosta) and walked down Avenue Rafael E. Melgar and back to the ship.

What I didn’t like about the cruise was the dining room food. Formal Night was the one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I ordered a dish with shrimp in it. When my dish came out, it looked like fish sticks with a tail on the end. I couldn’t even eat it. Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina were pretty good though but I wanted more of a variety so I ended up being disappointed with the food over all on the ship. Also, all water turns brown the morning we returned from Mobile.

Other than that, the sights were amazing and it was a stress free vacation. I would do another cruise in the future, just not Carnival. Maybe Royal Caribbean or Norwegian.
